Do you have a story worth telling, but find it difficult to put pen to the proverbial paper? Do you have trouble getting across what the story is that is finding a life of it's own within your head? Do characters speak with you and will you to be their spokesperson?

Is your passion; Young Adult, Chick Lit, Contemporary Fiction or steamy erotica? It doesn't matter what it is, all that is important is taking that first step to writing it down. Who knows, you may have the next best seller bursting to come out!

Writing for me is a pleasure, an escape a way of life. But, it wasn't always easy finding the time or the words or the flow to write them down. Even now, I find it hard with all the other pressures and responsibilities of daily life to feel inspired, but the important thing to remember is to write something everyday. For me, knowing that I attend a writing course and that I am required to write everyday makes the task easier—not easy though.

Deciding to leave your everyday life and enrolling in a creative writing course, is not only a financial strain on you and your family, but it can be a big commitment many of us aren't able to do. It is tiring and stressful and all of those other things you can think of to excuse you from doing one, but at the end of the day, deciding to commit is your hardest decision, everything will fall into place—trust me, I know—with four children at school and full time study, I've managed to almost complete my degree (will have, by the end of this year!) and although it has been trying, it is something that I am so glad I was encouraged by my husband to do.

Okay, so studying full time or part time is definitely not an option? Don't fret, we are so lucky to live in a city where creativity is part of our existence; short story writing courses are available and the commitment is for many— a day, a weekend or one night a week for a few weeks, doable? Definitely.

Get on line, you'll be surprised to find that many of these courses are available through your own local council.

The Wheeler Centre located at the State Library Victoria is the place for the most up to date information about anything to do with reading and writing. There are always industry based events that are a necessity for an emerging writing.

Local TAFEs or Universities, don't be daunted, Victoria University offers these and all details are available on their website .

Now, if you're still finding this all a bit daunting, consider starting up a writers group. Put the call out to your friends, family, kid's school and get a group of people together at your convenience and get writing together. If you're all in the same position, you may find that setting an allocated time together for writing and if your game reading aloud can be the way to see if your story is coming along the way you hope it too.

Many well known authors are still part of writer's groups, the experience and feed back invaluable to your work.

One thing to note, finding a group of people that do gel together will be your biggest hurdle. There is no way to determine whether the group you have is the right group for you, but I assure you, as you gain the confidence in your writing and in being able to read your work aloud and receive feed back on it, you will soon discover whether you are getting the most out of your writing group.

There is no hard or fast rule to writing, what works for me may not work for you, but I've given you some of the outlets and things that are available to you. I'm sure with time, you'll find your own methods of writing. I bid you good luck and I hope to see your name on the next best seller list.
