" is a festival of LGBTIQ writers and readers and will be held at the Realm, Ringwood. This is a free event, however, bookings are essential for each session.
Realm is owned and managed by Maroondah City Council, located in Ringwood's Town Square precinct, it is a state-of-the-art facility leading the way in educational, creative and prosperous development. The building is surrounded by open-air spaces for people to meet, cafes and retail shops.
commences from Tuesday 17th September through to Thursday 26th September 2019 and is an event exploring stories, ideas, focusing on text, performance and experience the writer gives to his or her reading audience in the context of queer history, language and discourse.
The event will include talks by acclaimed authors. a workshop for emerging writers, a rainbow family story-time for children, quiet reading for reflection and relaxation and plenty of books to look at the talk about as well as cabaret and live music for entertainment.
Mayor or Maroondah, Councillor Rob Steane will open this event on Tuesday evening from 6.30pm by introducing author and transgender activist Nevo Zisin. Nevo is a Jewish educator, public speaker, transgender, queer and feminist activist as well as a youth leader. Author of "Finding Nevo", which is an autobiography about gender and the complex journey needed to be taken along the road to self-affirmation.
The programme following on from the opening night is as follows.
18th September - 6.30pm – Queer Experience in Written Posterity: Panel Discussion
19th September - 11.00am – Rainbow Families Storytime with Jax Jacki Brown (ages 3 to 6 years)
20th September – 6.30pm - Benjamin Law: Growing up Queer in Australia
21st September – 10.30am – Writing Workshop with Narrelle M Harris (Adults only)
23rd September – 6.30pm – Maroondah Inclusive Communities Forum: Live Storytelling Session
24th September – 6.30pm – Queer Reading Hour
25th September – 6.30pm – Speculative Writing, Fearless Storytelling: Panel Discussion
26th September – 11.00am – Rainbow Families Storytime with Dolly Diamond! (ages 3 to 6 years)
26th September – 6.30pm – : Closing Night Celebration featuring Dolly Diamond
