Adelaide's annual LGBTQIA arts and culture festival Feast Festival is putting on a literary Feast this November. In collaboration with Writers SA and Wakefield Press , Writing Live will include 8 writing events in Feast Festival held at Treasury 1860 and Adelaide City Libraries . Events are open to all writers and readers.


Being Different Poetry Slam
Where: Treasury 1860, 144 King William St, Adelaide

Poetry is no longer art for just the elites. This spoken word poetry event puts the spotlight on 'Being Different'. An intergenerational group of LGBTQIA people will take to the stage for ten minutes to share their experiences in poetry. If you identify as LGBTQIA and want to share your poems or stories on the theme of Being Different, the organisers are accepting submissions for the event. More details here.


Pecking Disorder Book Launch

Fictional romance publisher Avid Publishing will be launching Pecking Disorder by Robert Moore.
Tasmania 1971. Eighteen-year-old Ross Mayne is at boarding school in Hobart. The night before he returns home for the first time, an unexpected liaison sends him into a spin.
Hosted by Hugh Macindoe, the launch will include book signings and refreshments.


Writers SA & Feast Festival Short Story comp readings

The 2019 winners of the annual Wristers SA and Feast Festival Short Story Competition will be reading their OUTstanding stories. Hear unique and diverse stories of a range of queer experiences across literary genres from both emerging and established queer writers. Buy tickets here .


Queers Underground 2

Queers Undergrounds returns for its second year in the tunnels of old Treasury building. Listen to poetry and spoken from Adelaide's young queer writers, including those from the Feast Queer Youth Drop-In. Sharing intimate words in the intimate venue feels like sharing secrets with strangers. Buy tickets here .


Writers SA Queer Genre meetup
Where: Adelaide City Library, Level 3 Rundle Place Adelaide

An opportunity to meet fellow queer writers at Writer's SA monthly meet-up. There will be a discussion of the queer literary tradition so prepare to share a piece of literature that has inspired you. All welcome.


Crossing Generations
Where: Treasury 1860

A rare opportunity to hear new work from writers in their 20s and 70s. Featuring: Caitlin Ellen Moore — A host and producer for Radio Adelaide, freelance writer, podcast maker, and occasional spoken word artist. Susan Magarey — author of Passions of the First wave Feminists and currently writing a history of the Australian Women's Liberation Movement's early years. Jamila Main — her play 'Butterfly Kicks' was performed at Midsumma Festival and her monologues have won Australian monologue competitions. Sue Sheridan — a pioneer of Women's Studies talking about the importance of 1970s women's poetry, making new statements about women's experiences. Buy tickets here .


Book launch: Further Fables Queer & Familiar

Further Fables Queer & Familiar is a wry, affectionate look at the lives of two lesbian grannies, their friends, family and community. Join the authors Margaret Merrilees and Chia Moan for the launch of their book through publisher Wakefield Press. Books available to purchase.

Adelaide-based independent book publisher Wakefield Press is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2019. This event will include readings of Wakefield Press titles from LGBTQIA authors and publishing supporters. Book sales and signings will be available.
