The Writer's Journey is a unique creative writing organisation presided by writer, performer and teacher, Jan Cornall. Jan regularly hosts creative writing workshops and retreats in Australia and the Asia Pacific which offer the essential tools, methods and ongoing support for both beginners and experienced writers of all genres.
The
The Writer's Journey workshops and retreats greatly differ from other creative writing workshops as Jan utilises meditative methods, which help writers with every aspect of craft and process, including creating original characters, developing plot devices, ensuring the impact of the narrative and how to manage one's 'inner critic'.
The Writer's Journey :
Course is currently open for registrations and is available as a
Full Course consisting of four workshop meetings, two Skype check-ins plus a one-on-one manuscript session; a
Workshops Only course; or a convenient
Online Course . With so many options to choose from, the
Course sessions for 2013/14 are sure to be popular with Sydney's budding writers.
Through the
Course sessions, Jan will host four workshop sessions in Glenrock House, Petersham, Sydney;
Lab 1 [Sunday, 24th November: 10 am – 4pm]
In this workshop, writers will present and workshop their writing project idea. A writing timetable will be set and mutual mentoring teams will be established.
Lab 2 [Wednesday, 11th December: 10am -1pm]
Two weeks later, writers will present their progress report and workshop a selection of work completed since Lab 1. Writers will receive feedback on setting and finding one's narrative voice.
Lab 3 [Sunday, 5th January: 10 am – 4pm]
A progress report will be presented and writers will workshop a selection of work completed since Lab 2. Jan will offer advice on developing characters, story, structure and style. There will also be exercises on themes, unity, cohesiveness and impact.
Lab 4 [Monday, 27th January: 10 am - 4pm]
In this final session, writers will present a synopsis, outline and a selection of finished work. Writers will then receive advice on pitching and publishing their manuscripts and will set goals for rewrites, polishing and approaching potential publishers.
Manuscript sessions can then be arranged with Jan (up to four months after completion of the final lab session); these follow-up sessions will be held over Skype.
Writers who choose to complete the Lab sessions online will be sent writing tasks to complete ahead of each lab. The completed work will be posted online and Jan and the group will offer feedback. Writers also have the option of two 20 minute Skype check-ins and can follow up the online course with a manuscript session with Jan.
The Full Course and the Online Course are the same price ($895), whilst the Workshop Only Course (without a manuscript session) is priced at $495. Registrations for each for these courses are now open; you can pay the registration fees through
Paypal to reserve your place.
If you opt for the Online Course, you will need to book your spot as soon as possible and send details of your writing project to Jan before
Wednesday, 20th November 2013.
Jan has helped many first time writers go on to publish with major publishing houses and by participating in this course, you will be able to meet like-minded individuals and receive expert guidance and on-going support.
