For stay-at-home parents, discovering something to do mid-week with your preschooler that's not too expensive is always a bit of a challenge. While the Perth metro area is awash with colourful, child-friendly activities on the weekend, from Monday to Friday there are generally just regular weekly events held at local libraries and playgroups: stimulating for the littlies, but sometimes a bit 'ho-hum' for care-givers itching for something out of the box.
Next Thursday, however, two free, fun programs with a difference will be held simultaneously at Wandarrah Hall on Edgeware Street in Lynwood and the Lyal Richardson Hall in Gosnells.
The is a collaboration between Parenting WA, Extra Edge, Roberta Jull Family Day Care Service, City of Canning, City of Gosnells and Communicare and, as its name indicates, is striving to set a new record as being the biggest family rhyme time in the world. The event has been designed for children aged from newborn to four years old, and aims to educate their parents and caregivers to take a greater role in fostering their development through the use of songs, stories and rhymes.
Over recent years there has been much concern expressed regarding the declining standard of literacy amongst Australian youngsters. The utilisation of songs, stories and rhymes is a fun interactive way for this concern to be addressed and something that very young children, and their adults, can enjoy together. It is this message that The World's Largest Rhyme Time is striving to promote. As well as loads of wonderful songs and stories to be enjoyed, there will also be additional entertainment and prizes to be won.
Taking place on Thursday April 10th, from 10am until 11.30am, the is an event that you definitely won't want to miss if you're the parent of a preschooler. Totally free, it offers invaluable information for parents and caregivers, while littlies will have a blast singing and enjoying story-time with hundreds of other children. If you want to take part, just turn up at either venue. The event is absolutely free of change.
