The World's Biggest Car Boot Sale is a fundraising effort held twice annually by Hunter Life Education, which ensures the Life Education program continues to be delivered to the children of the Hunter region (it's the one with Healthy Harold and focuses on health health drug education). The next event will be held on Sunday November 25th from 9.00am to 2.00pm and will see the huge car parks at Hunter Stadium filled with over 300 stalls selling everything new and old, creating the the perfect place to do some Christmas shopping.
You can participate as a seller or just come along and browse (you will find a listing of all the stalls and what they're selling in the Newcastle Herald on Friday November 23rd). As well as the stalls, there will also be entertainment such as rides and appearances by Healthy Harold and Big Dog, as well as the sale of food and drinks. Think of the World's Biggest Car Boot Sale as a giant garage sale or community marketplace.
If you are interested in selling some of that clutter in your house, set up a stall at this event and you will have over 10,000 shoppers pass by. There are over 500 sites available, and they haven't sold out yet. You can register yours here. Single sites cost $30 and are 2.75 metres by 5.5 metres. You can also get larger areas. Two sites costs $50.00, three sites' $70.00, four sites' $90.00, five sites' $110.00 and six sites' $130.00. If you want even more space, extra sites will then cost $20.00 each. You can set up a stall in your area, or just sell items out of the back of the car. No roaming sales are permitted.
You can start arriving to set up your site from 6.00am on the day and you are expected to have it ready by 8.30am. You cannot then dismantle it till 2.00pm. Once the event has finished, you have till 3.30pm to vacate your site. If you aren't selling from your car boot, you can still drive onto the site in the morning during the set-up period (6.00am to 8.30am) to unload your items. Access is via Turton Road only and your car must be gone from the site before 8.30am.
If you want to be part of the event but have nothing to sell, you many want to volunteer. Around 40 volunteers are needed to help with traffic marshalling, gold coin collection at the entry gates, drink sales and assistance at the fundraising BBQ. They are needed between 6.00am and 3.00pm. You will be provided with a Hunter Life Education shirt and hat, as well as water, sunscreen and lunch.
If you can't make it to the World's Biggest Car Boot Sale this time, look out for more events next year. There should be another sale taking place on a Sunday around mid-year, and then another on the fourth Sunday of November.
