I'm a retired photographer living in Lilydale mainly researching and writing on mainly Australian aviation history. Now writing more on general subjects.
Event:
Kermit's day out
World Wetlands Day is celebrated internationally each year on 2 February, being first celebrated in 1997.

Since then government agencies, non-government organisations and community groups have celebrated World Wetlands Day by undertaking actions to raise public awareness of wetland values and benefits and promote the conservation and wise use of wetlands.

World Wetlands Day will be celebrated in Lilydale on 2 February 1919 at the wetlands area of the Lilydale Lake Pond, also known as the Hull Road Wetlands.

The Yarra Ranges Council has arranged for local naturalist David De Angelis to talk about frogs found in the Yarra Ranges and surrounding area.

The talk will take place in the wetlands area commencing with a talk on water monitoring at 9.00am, followed by the frog talk at 10.30am.

It is a free event suitable for all ages and flat nature of the area is suitable for the mobility challenged.

Boardwalk
Several boardwalks and bridges make walking very easy.

The Hull Road Wetlands can be accessed from Lakeview Drive or a 1.5 km meander from the Lillydale Lake car park.

Running water
Bubbling water adds to the enjoyment of the area.

The wetlands consist of three large ponds or small lakes full of vegetation which provide the habitat for a variety of wildlife, including frogs.

Vegetation
These views shows the abundant vegetation surrounding the ponds.

Wide gravel paths circumnavigate the ponds providing views from different angles. It is a very quiet area and doesn't attract the crowds of the Lillydale Lake circuit. On my first visit there, I only encountered three people and a dog, on a lead of course.

The World Wetland Day is a good opportunity to experience this almost hidden wetland area and learn about the local habitat of Kermit's cousins.
