World War I – A Jazz Reflection
The world's most
liveable city resonates with scores of free music events this
June . There are lunchtime
recitals in
Docklands , pop-up
riverside jazz club at
Hamer Hall , and Melbourne International Jazz Festival opened with a
concert at
Federation Square . There are also gigs and concerts in
Footscray and
Mooney Valley . The musical notes that fill the clubs, art venues and concert halls will also fill the
Shrine of Remembrance when the Air Force Band comes to town.
The
Air Force Band is known for its regular concert performances in
Melbourne Town Hall and representing the Air Force and Defence at ANZAC Day commemorations in
Australia and internationally. It promotes and enhances the image and culture of the Air Force through a wide range of music including its 'flagship' ceremonial and concert bands, show bands, chamber ensembles, and drum corps.
The free concert at the Shrine of Remembrance will be delivered by the Royal Australian Air Force Band Jazz Group from RAAF Williams in Laverton. Formed in the early 1920s, the Group draws inspiration from the vibrant local jazz culture. This team of 6 musicians dedicated to all things jazz compiled a program dedicated to the First World War. You and your family can enjoy an hour of music from the period and a collection of original compositions written by the group. There are 2 sessions based on a 11.30am arrival for 12pm start and 2pm arrival for 2.30pm start. Tickets for the concert are expected to sell out quickly so visit the website to reserve yours today.
