Delicious and delicate morsels
What are "Tapas?" If you have visited Spain, you'll know that they are small savoury dishes often served with a drink as a snack in a bar. They are often combined with other tapas and the larger "raciones" to make up a delicious meal. It is a great way to sample and try a variety of the dishes on offer.
To "tapear", refers to going from bar to bar for drinks and tapas, essentially a pub crawl with food. It is an important part of the culture in Spain and enjoyed by all ages. Going for tapas means having a good time, sharing with friends and enjoying life through gastronomy.
Last year was the first time World Tapas Day was organised not only in Spain, but also in other countries. A total of 29 countries, 437 international restaurants, 100 sponsors and collaborators and 35,511,923 consumers took part. This year sees it being expanded once again, so don't miss out. Start early and pace yourself.
