2019 marks the 20th anniversary of World Tai Chi & Qigong Day (World T'ai Chi and Ch'i Kung Day) - held at 10am on the last Saturday in April, this year, it will be held on Sunday, 27 April 2019. If you live in Adelaide's southern suburbs, City of Holdfast are hosting an event at Angus Neill Reserve, Seacliff (10am to 11am) - to find an event near you, go to World Tai Chi & Qigong Day's Facebook page.

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and culture, qi (ch'i) is believed to be the vital force forming part of any living entity - both Tai Chi and Qigong (Chi Kung) incorporate qi, for energy flow and life force. Qigong is health exercise with a gentle approach and involves coordinated breathing, movement, and awareness (proprioception) - its forms are medical, meditation and martial. Tai Chi forms and movements are more complex and take time to learn and put into practice. Involving slow, relaxing movements - both Tai Chi and Qigong are suitable for people of all fitness levels.

People who incorporate Tai Chi and/or Qigong into their daily lives experience physiological, physical and psychological benefits - with longitudinal medical research reporting positive results in weight loss, stroke rehabilitation, relaxation, postural control and pain management.
