Winning photos from the 57th World Press Photo Contest, selected from more than 90,000 images submitted to the contest from 5,754 photographers from 132 nationalities will be coming to Barcelona. Of greatest interest will be the 2014 World Press Photo of the Year awarded to US photographer John Stanmeyer. His photograph captures African migrants on the shore of Djibouti city at night, raising their phones in an attempt to capture an inexpensive signal from neighboring Somalia. World Press Photo is an independent, non-profit organization with its office in Amsterdam. Its annual contest supports high standards in photojournalism and documentary photography worldwide, and generates wide public interest in and appreciation for the work of photographers.
