Many of us love our curries, including myself! I like them medium hot and perhaps my favourite is a red Thai curry, however, I eat all curries whether dry or wet!

Now there is an event where you can choose from many countries and try the different curries. This is particularly good if you are a large eater. Make sure you go with several people, so you can share and get a taste of several of the different curries.

Here you will find curries from the following countries:

  • Indian
  • Thai
  • Sri Lankan
  • Jamaican
  • Philippines
  • African
  • Malaysian
  • Japanese
  • Chinese
  • Nepalese
  • Vietnamese
  • And the list goes on...

  • It will be held on Friday 3rd May 2019 from 4.00 pm to 9.00 pm, so you have plenty of time to come after work. The event is brought to you by Aus Street Food and Explore Curtin. It will be held at Curtin University, Kent St, Bentley.

Aus Street Food Awards will be celebrating the world's best curries. They will be created out of a huge love for food, culture and community. This festival celebrates all things curry in Perth.

The aim of Curry Up Now is to showcase the best variety of flavours by putting on these amazing dishes. Every country has their own take and differences on their curries, so why not join in to sample the world's curry flavours!

You will be able to learn about the family history of the vendor's recipes and then vote for your favourite.

This is a FREE community event with live music, games, entertainment and a pop-up bar.

    About Curries
We often associate curries with Indian food, however, India is just one country that has their special type of curry! Many other countries also specialise in their own type of curry and many are delicious! Curry in western usage is a dish composed with a sauce or gravy seasoned with a mixture of ground spices. It is believed to have originated in India and has since spread to many regions of the world.

The base of many Indian curries is a mixture of onion, ginger, and garlic. That base is often used with several spices added. These are generally cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, cumin, fennel seed, fenugreek, mustard seed, black and red (cayenne) pepper, and turmeric. Turmeric gives it that yellow colour and these spices are then toasted and finely ground to be a curry powder.

Other ingredients may include curry leaves, chillies, nutmeg, mace, poppy seed, star anise and bay leaves. Each region of the country has its own flavours.

A spice mixture called curry powder was actually adapted by British settlers in India.
