Get your global groove on with Brisbane's best world music at the annual World by Night concert, bought to you by the Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre (BEMAC) and Brisbane City Council. Join BEMAC in promoting and celebrating the beauty and diversity of Brisbane's multicultural arts community. The musical extravaganza is set to shake the very foundations of King George Square on Friday 21st December from 7.30pm - 10.00pm.
The organisers of this year's concert have chosen to introduce a more interactive element with street dancers and a roving gypsy band. Try your hand (or feet) at Tango and Bollywood dancing or a wee little jig to Irish group Sasta. Dance and sway under the starlit sky and the sparkle of Australia's largest solar powered Christmas tree.
The popular Ethno Choir returns this year; made up of 30-40 young people their performance is the result of a week long music making camp. Other musical highlights include an Istanbul gypsy group and the feet stamping rhythms of three drumming groups from different cultures, each group doing a solo performance followed by an improvised group jam.
In between dancing and soaking up the the sweet sounds and vibrant atmosphere, wander the cultural craft markets for that unique, last minute Christmas gift, snack at one of the food stalls or get yourself decorated with an intricate henna tattoo.
