There are many different workshops you can do and much you can learn either as a hobby or a business.

These five are presented by the Perth Makers Markets.

1. Embroidery Hoop Art Workshop
The embroidery hoop is a frame that consists of a pair of concentric circular wooden rings. The larger ring has a tightening device and this is usually a metal screw. The fabric is put in between these rings and you work on it.

Danielle Matthews from "Ruby Sew Oh" will teach you about the tools and techniques needed in creating embroidery hoop art. You will learn the basics of hand embroidery, practice various stitches, and make your own piece to take home.

This will be on 28th July from 1.00 pm until 3.30 pm and the cost will be $89 plus GST.

You will receive refreshments, and all materials, as well as a take-home kit - all included in the price. It will be held at the Heathcote Cultural Precinct, 58 Duncraig Road in Applecross.

2. Marketing 101: Affirming Your Foundation
In this first of two workshops, you'll be taught how to get back to marketing basics.

It will focus on resetting or affirming your foundations and this will be a great opportunity to boost your self-confidence when it comes to marketing and promoting your creations.

You will be taught how to:
  • Understand the reasons you started your business and how to use the information to engage with your ideal customers.
  • Identify and connect with your ideal customer in a way that will create a good and lasting experience that keeps them coming back to you for more.
  • Think like the business owner you are and less like the "on the side, when I have time" maker.
  • Source the stories in your business so you can use these as a means to create "engagement and a connected community of people who love you as much as they love what you make".
  • Understand the effect that planning has on business growth as your audience gets larger, and therefore so do your sales.
  • Have better focus and clarity and therefore feel more confident to market your products online and in person.

  • This will be held on 24th July from 6.00 pm until 9.00 pm and it includes tea and coffee. It will be held at the Heathcote Cultural Precinct, 58 Duncraig Road, Applecross.

Cost: $150.00 plus GST, and you can book here.

    3. Mono Printing on a Gelatine Plate
This will be a fascinating art technique which has immediate and surprising results!

You will apply paint to a slab which is made of a gelatine mixture, and use leaves, stencils, stamps, masks and other objects to make a range of incredible layered prints. You will be taught the different ways to use these simple tools to make lovely one of a kind artworks.

These prints that you will make, can be taken home and framed or used in other projects.

This will be held on 4th August from 11.00 am until 2.00 pm. It will be held at the Heathcote Cultural Precinct, 58 Duncraig Road, Applecross, and will cost $95.00 GST.

Here you will build on the foundational principles which you were taught in this previous workshop.

    During this session, you will
  • Understand buyer psychology and how to use this to your advantage and therefore increase your sales.
  • Learn about your product descriptions and displays that are possibly stopping your customers from buying from you.
  • Discover how to identify your "ideal" customer's needs.

  • You can learn more about this workshop here

You do not need to attend Marketing 101 to go to this workshop, though it is encouraged.

It is a three-part workshop, where the facilitator, Ania's aim is to share some of her knowledge. Ania will give you such confidence that you are bound to enjoy doing portraits.
