From the 31st of May to the 5th of June 2023, the Central Coast will host the Words of the Waves Writer's Festival for the third year. The festival gathers Australian authors and journalists in a picturesque area overlooking one of the Central Coast's most beautiful beaches at Umina. Hosted across three venues on the Central Coast over five days, the festival is running with the theme of the mind swims, a perfect theme for a coastal region. The venues are as follows:

The Main Program events are scheduled for the fourth and the fifth of June at Umina Beach Surf Life Saving Club (509 Ocean Beach Road, Umina Beach), and the Ocean Beach Surf Life Saving Club (176 The Esplanade, Umina Beach). Each venue has free carparking and a variety of food options. As each venue has morning and afternoon sessions, if you are booked into sessions at each one, the festival will have a courtesy bus running between them, or, you can take quiet back lanes or a beach stroll to access each venue.

In addition, there will be several other events across the five days at other venues, so check the website to ensure you've got the right address if you have tickets to any events. The other venues are:

- The Art House Wyong, 19-21 Margaret Street, Wyong
- Naughty Noodle Fun Haus, 5 Broken Bay Road, Ettalong
- Bar Toto, 83/189 Ocean View Road, Ettalong
- Work Collective, 3/322-326 West Street, Umina
- Woy Woy Library, corner of Blackwall Road and Oval Avenue, Woy Woy
- Jasmine Greens Park Kiosk, Peninsula Recreation Precinct, Sydney Avenue, Umina Beach
- Woy Woy Wharf for the literary cruise, The Boulevard, Woy Woy

The events will range from author talks, readings, book signings, a family fun day on Sunday at Everglades Country Club in Woy Woy, which is free, but visitors must sign into the club to attend, and a wide and diverse range of authors from all around Australia who are coming to talk about books, literature and the ideas that shape these books over the five-day festival. Your experience will be helped by the wonderful Words on the Waves volunteers across all the venues and events. Words on the Waves is the Central Coast's first and only writer's festival, and in addition to the main festival, also has a range of events throughout the year where possible. This is a unique festival for the area and attracts large numbers of people with events selling out fast! This is a unique opportunity for Central Coast wordsmiths to experience a writer's festival in our own backyard.
