By popular demand the Words on the Waves Writers Festival (3-6 June 2022) is doubling their program and have acquired an extra venue. In addition to the Ocean Beach SLSC, 176 The Esplanade, Umina Beach, main program author talks will also be hosted at the nearby Umina Surf Life Saving Club, 509 Ocean Beach Road, Umina Beach. There'll also be an array of special events that include a cinema screening, a literary cruise, adult writing workshops and more. You can dive into the program right here, or download the pdf program. You'll also find upcoming events listed individually on the Facebook events page via which you can stay in touch for updates. Keep in mind this is a not-for-profit organisation run by a small team of volunteers and contributions/donations of any size is appreciated to bring the arts to the Coast by local Peninsula residents who are passionate about creating a wonderful and inclusive festival. You can kick off your program itinerary on a Thursday night (2 June from 7pm) with an evening of poetry literary readings and other surprises with a delicious Bar Toto cocktail in hand. Friday (3 Jun from 7pm) looks pretty good with an evening with Hannah Kent, Australia's bestselling literary fiction author who will be joined by theatre-maker and commentator, Van Badham.

Saturday (4 Jun) is when the festival gets a proper kickstart across both venues, with book signings following each event. These morning and afternoon sessions are accessible via the Saturday Day Pass or Weekend Pass only. Dive into a day's worth of deep discussions and stirring stories over four sessions and two venues. Saturday is also the day of the Cinema screening and conversation with Margaret Pomeranz. Sunday (5 Jun) is filled with ripping yarns over four sessions in two locations with the afternoon session including cinema icon Bryan Brown and his short story collection, along with other wonderful authors.

The weekend is also a day of workshops with 'Self-Publishing 101 Workshop' with Darcy Coates on the Saturday and 'Bringing Characters to Life Workshop' with Kate Forsyth on the Sunday. The Woy Woy Library and Bar Toto will be hosting local author book launches on the 2nd, 9th and 10th June, which is an exciting new element to the writers festival. The launch events are free but bookings are essential to ensure there's enough staff and to meet venue capacity limits. For words on the water literally there's a literary cruise on Monday (6 Jun 10am-12pm) to round out the festival. Join cruise host and historian, Ian Hoskins, alongside lauded local poet Robert Adamson, and literary wordsmith Delia Falconer who will be putting words and ideas afloat in a memorable cruise up the Hawkesbury River. Please attend attend as many of these events as you would like and support our wonderful authors and organisers. For the lovers of the written word, this couldn't be a more perfect event.
