Words on the Waves is back for its fifth year in 2025, and the program and ticketing for this year has just been released.

When you purchase tickets , you can buy a day pass or a weekend pass to talks and conversations with Australia’s best authors. These talks cover politics, poetry, memoir, spy crime and much more for every book lover!

For adults, you can catch the following authors across the festival:
- Kate Grenville
- David Marr
- Clare Wright
- Gail Jones
- Virginia Trioli
- Julia Baird
- Steve Vizard
- Jane Caro
- Gideon Haigh
- Emily Maguire
- Inga Simpson
- Jumaana Abdu
- Charlotte McConaghy
- Nikki Gemmel
- Jessie Tu
- James Bradley
- Debra Dank
- Lech Blaine
- Oeter Greste

And many more across various genres and readerships. If you purchase a day pass. You get to see four sessions across the two venues or eight sessions for a weekend pass. And you get to select your events and attend a book signing after each event as well. Remember, these sessions will only be accessible if you have a day or weekend pass.

- Late Night Lit , a poetry and reading evening.

- An Evening with Kate Grenville at our fun-loving festival marquee, The Dip.
- the Opening Address .
- Writing Upstream Industry event.
- Author Talk with Jessica Townsend – The Magic of Morrigan .

For schools, there’s the Ripples Schools Program , and bookings are now open. There is more information on the website, but this is a good way to get students engaged with books, reading and writing in a school environment. This will take place at the Ourimbah Campus of the University of Newcastle.
