Bribie Island is the only one of Moreton Bay's sand islands that has a bridge connecting it to the mainland, making its beaches along the eastern shore the closest surf beaches for many Brisbane residents. It also has a long stretch of dog off-leash beach, although updates to where dogs are allowed were announced in May 2019.

Under the new regulations, the off-leash beach area can be accessed directly from Lowry St at Woorim, or from Buckley's Hole Conservation Park via a short on-leash section of beach. Signs are installed along the entire area, making it easy for dog owners to follow the new rules.

This section of beach is any dog's dream, with kilometres of sand and surf for them to run and play along.

The surf here is generally gentle and flattens out towards the Buckley's Hole Conservation Park end of the off-leash beach.

Marine wildlife is often seen along this section of beach, a delight for dog owners. A small pod of Australian humpback dolphins were playing in the surf along the beach on our last visit there.

Regulations for the off-leash beach include:

  • Each dog must be accompanied by someone 16 years of age or over
  • They must be able to control the dog by voice command or other means
  • Dogs may not enter any conservation parks behind the beach
  • Dogs must be kept at least 15 metres away from children's playgrounds on Bribie Island at all times
  • Owners are legally responsible if their dog attacks a person or animal

  • Although dogs are prohibited on many sections of Bribie Island, including within the national park, there are two on-leash beach areas as well. These include:

  • From the entrance to Woorim Beach at the northern end of North St until the four-wheel drive access track to the north of it
  • The area of beach north of Boronia Drive to the end of Sylvan Beach Esplanade

  • The well-signed, beautiful dog off-leash beach at Bribie Island is a treat for dogs and their owners, both of whom are likely to need a nap after all that fun! Car parking is available near both entrances to the dog off-leash beach, and additional facilities including car parking, public toilets, dog waste bins, picnic facilities, and water fountains can be found at Bluey Piva Park , Woorim.
