The iconic
Woodford Folk Festival is Australia’s largest gathering of performers and is held every year at a dedicated 500-acre parklands site known as Woodfordia, only one hour’s drive north of Brisbane or forty minutes west of Caloundra. An eclectic mix of more than 120,000 flamboyant and colourful performers, talented artists and party lovers flood the not-for-profit Woodford Folk Festival for six days of whirlwind non-stop entertainment. Your days will be a medley of music, cabaret, circus, comedy, street theatre, visual arts, a Children’s Festival, many special presentations, plus a spectacular fire event on New Year’s Day.

Everyone who visits the Woodford Folk Festival is totally taken in by the magical ambience, the high energy levels, the awesome music, the electric vibes and the infectious community spirit. The Woodford Folk Festival programme contains more than four hundred and fifty acts and is a mix of locals and internationals including
Baker Boy, Bic Runga (NZ), Yothu Yindi, Gina Chick, Aurus (France), Ball Park Music, Beccy Cole, Jaguar Jonze and
King Stingray, to name just a few.

2. From start to finish, visitors to Woodford Folk Festival will be mesmerised as the twenty-seven venues kick off with a bang, becoming the showcase stages for the more than 2,000 performers. Watch on in awe, as the streets transform into a performance space with giant puppets, one-man bands and all versions of creativity inhabiting them. Jinibara Custodians and Woodfordian Elders welcome everyone home in song and ceremony at the Opening Ceremony.

On New Year’s Eve at 11.30pm, the tolling of the bell signals three minutes of silence. With a candle in hand, everyone is encouraged to reflect on the year that was, remember lost loved ones and look to the future. This poignant moment of reflection and togetherness is a memorable closing out of the year. The Woodford Folk Festival’s grand finale is the much-loved annual Fire Event.

3. Woodfordian devotees inherently know that the Woodford Folk Festival is more than just music - the experience is profound, opulent and colourful. The whole festival is focused on a message of

4. You’ve heard the expression ‘location, location, location!’ Well, the Woodford Folk Festival’s location is spectacular! A few kilometres north of Woodford, visitors to the unparalleled Woodford Folk Festival will discover Woodfordia, formerly a dairy farm that has now been regenerated with subtropical rainforest trees, orchids, ferns and sedges. The Festival is as much about being surrounded by nature, as it is by musical talent and like-minded free spirits.

Every year Woodfordia is transformed into a village with more than just stages and tents - the tree-filled campgrounds, butterfly walks, ponds and wildlife create a magical experience unlike any other festival.

5. Woodford Folk Festival is a festival that has thought of everything and that includes food. Whether you’re vegan, vegetarian or a carnivore, Woodfordians are assured of being well fed every day. From kicking off your morning with the wake-up call of caffeine to a taste-energising açai bowl, your ‘foodie’ day will only improve. Forage the many food stalls for deliciously divine menus that include burgers, fish and chips, Middle Eastern and even organic gluten-free brownies. For those looking for a drink, bars and chill-out zones are provided to sit back, relax and intrinsically be woven into the magic of the sensational street performers.

With a jam-packed itinerary every year, the Woodford Folk Festival is also your home base for sensational cabaret acts, acrobatic workshops, comedy shows, and a plethora of topical discussions, including discussions with Australia’s favourite guru, Costa Georgiadis. Woodfordians can start the morning at sunrise with a yoga session overlooking the forest or lake, or perhaps a meditation session to find a tranquil moment for contemplation. Spend your days ambling through the festival streets, lined with eateries, bars, street theatre and parades or visit the market stalls selling handcrafts, fashion, Indigenous art and so much more. Whatever you choose to do, there is always something going on!

7. Never miss a beat with the whole Woodford Folk Festival experience and book yourself an onsite stay, it’s the ultimate way to ensure you capture the whole and never miss a moment. Woodford has its very own orderly tent city set amongst the trees, in close proximity of the big tops where Woodfordians can hire a ready-to-go tent or pitch their own. Shower and toilet facilities are available, but all other essentials need to be BYO. When purchasing your ticket, please make sure to add on a camping permit too.

The General Store on site has everything you could possibly need for your six-day Woodfordian experience i.e. fresh fruit and supplies, unusual Woodfordian wares plus lake-friendly Woodfordia Apothecary skincare products.

8. To beat the summer Queensland heat, Lake Gkula is a recent very-welcome addition to Woodfordia. This delightful manmade lake is eco-friendly and chemical free, utilising all-natural water filtration systems to deliver a safe habitat for wildlife as well as humans. Lake Gkula has become home to more than sixteen species of native fish and crustaceans and over 8,000 plants, including native water lilies. At present, to protect the ecology of the lake, only Season Campers, artists and volunteers are allowed to swim at the festival.

9. And, last but most importantly - the Woodford Folk Festival is family-friendly! Children are well provided for at Woodford, with an entire children’s mini festival dedicated to keeping them entertained and inspired, so make sure you bring them too for your family mini-scape. Children are given their own space to dance and play, with activities running from 8.00am until 5.00pm every day. They can spend their days watching puppet shows and circus acts, participating in arts, crafts and yoga, or relaxing during storytelling sessions.
