Artisan Food Market
If gourmet Australian and European Cheeses are high on your list of favourite things, then Bardon Shopping Village has an indulgence which is sure to please or should I say 'cheese'! Woodblock Cheese is a treasure trove of cheeses and accessories to build a platter or savoury snacks for you to enjoy or to share, maybe reluctantly, with friends.

Former Human Resources professional and owner Margie Parsons opened the Woodblock artisan cheese shop in 2017 and has built a loyal following of visitors. Margie studied at the Artisan Cheesemaking Academy in South Australia and is a qualified cheesemaker or cheesemonger.

Stepping up to the shop, I noticed the sign out the front encourages a community of cheese lovers. This is reinforced in the aim of the business which is which "to create a community of cheese lovers, people who adore great cheese, enjoy sharing it with family and friends, and are curious about new tastes and styles."

Building a community of cheese lovers

A small, potted garden with herbs greets visitors at the entrance of the Bardon shop. My visit coincided with the Valentine's Day, so the shop window was adorned with red love hearts which added to the occasion.

Accessories like cheeseboards, knives and books are also available to complement your purchase.

Join the Woodblock Cheese Club
As part of building a sense of community, Woodblock has created a cheese club. Members get four or more cheeses (800g ), crackers (or a surprise gift), and tasting notes for $69.95. Woodblock can arrange delivery or you can pick up the package from the store.

Cheese Appreciation Classes
If a visit to the store or joining the club has left you hungry to learn more, Woodblock holds held wine and cheese tasting and education nights to sample products, build a deeper understanding of this savoury delight and meet new friends along the way.

Buying online
With the busyness of everyday life, if getting to the shop or popping along to an appreciation night is a little difficult then you can purchase your favourite cheeses online. Just drop by their website to make your selection.

Before planning your next dinner party, consider a visit to Woodblock Cheese. This sweet little store is open 5 days from Wednesday to Sunday (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). Bardon is located 6km from the CBD.
