The Wood Oven, Nelson Bay

The Wood Oven is a wood-fired pizza restaurant located upstairs at the d'Albora Marinas, on the scenic
Nelson Bay Foreshore . It is the ideal location to enjoy a casual meal with friends or family, whilst overlooking the spectacular blue water of the bay. My family visited this pizza restaurant on a busy weekend at the start of summer, eager to see if it was as good as the delicious wood-fired pizza smells that came from it. On the day of our visit, we were fortunate to be able to listen to a talented musician who was singing on the small stage by the water, down below the restaurant. It was the ultimate way to kick off the weekend, with pizza, views and some tunes to sing along to, while we soaked up the Nelson Bay holiday atmosphere.
When we first arrived at The Wood Oven, we were warmly welcomed and shown to an outside table, so we could listen to the music and look out to the water. As we sat down, we enquired about the $10 lunch pizza special, which is a small size pizza for one person and you can choose from any of the Traditional options on the
menu (or pay $13 for the Gourmet options). Alternatively, if you all like the same pizza, it is also just as cost effective to order a Large, Family or Mega size and share it. There are over 30 different pizzas combinations to choose from - the hard part is choosing.
While we were deciding on what to order, the friendly lady (who appeared to be the owner), then returned with a magna doodle for our daughter - which couldn't have come at a better time! It made the experience much more enjoyable to have her entertained and she also was happy to see kids on other tables playing with them too. A simple idea, but it can mean the difference between a quick meal and a leisurely one!
We went up to the counter and ordered the $10 lunch special for our daughter in a Hawaiian (without pineapple) and for us, we chose a large size Chicken Pizza with avocado and roasted capsicum (no artichoke). The restaurant started to fill with holiday-makers and we assumed the pizzas would take a while, however after just a few games of noughts and crosses on the magna doodle, the pizzas were promptly delivered to our table. The smell alone had us fighting for the plates, all eager to have a slice!
Our daughter, age 7, ate half of the $10 lunch pizza on her own, so it is the perfect size for kids and adults, with 4 generous slices per pizza. Our daughter loved the flavour of the Hawaiian pizza, particularly the garlic and herb base underneath. Our Chicken pizza was equally as delicious with a flavoursome combination of ingredients. As the base was thin, it was also refreshing to leave feeling full, but not stuffed. A large pizza can easily be shared between 2- 3 people, or if you would like something more substantial, they also offer a range of pasta, steak and chicken schnitzels to choose from on the
menu .
The Wood Oven restaurant is an enjoyable place to visit - it is a casual venue where you can relax, but still enjoy the perks of a million dollar view and location. As you sit and enjoy your pizza, pasta or meal, you can also smell the large wood-fired pizza oven inside, which creates a cosy feeling to the venue. Although the Wood Oven is just one of many restaurant choices in the area, it is an easy venue for families, couples and groups to relax together and appreciate the stunning location. It is also licenced, so you can enjoy an icy cold beer with your pizza, which is the perfect marriage on a hot, summers day. Alternatively, if you don't want to eat in, you can also order a takeaway and sit on the grass down below, to enjoy the breeze off the water and be closer to the live music.
Go on, why don't you check it out for lunch today?
