Wonga Walk - Dorrigo National Park

Wonga Walk is a green, cool and shady immersion into the subtropical rainforest of
Dorrigo National Park . The 600-year-old trees of the World Heritage-listed Gondwana rainforests of Australia tower above you as they provide habitat for the many species of birds and animals endemic to the area.
Wonga Walk is marked as 6.2km and can easily be completed in the suggested 2-3hrs, including plenty of stops for photography and side trips to the cavern behind Crystal Shower Falls and along an elevated birdwatching boardwalk.
As you venture further along the well-maintained path from the visitor centre, you will leave the noises of civilisation behind. Most park visitors will only do small sections of the walk or stay at the
Skywalk Lookout and Rainforest Visitor Centre.
Take your time to enjoy the sounds of nature as well as the unique fragrance of the rainforest. Amongst the shades of green, you will see colourful fungi growing on rotting tree stumps and as well as native orchids and ferns.
If you manage to walk alone, you will feel insignificant, as you are dwarfed by the majesty of the old-growth forest and the powerful thundering sounds of the waterfalls.
Children would love this walk as it would be like a jungle adventure. I am sure the suspension bridge, elevated boardwalk and journeying behind a waterfall would be highlights.
Although most of the walk is on sealed pathways, it is graded moderate as there are some steep sections, some Ricky creek crossings, wet sections after rain and stairs. Make sure you take water, wear decent walking shoes and bring insect repellent as the environment is conducive to the existence of mosquitoes and leeches.
You don't need to go to Queensland to experience a piece of Gondwana!
