Wonders of the World LEGO® Exhibition

Those of us who call Brisbane home know that it's really a happening city with a lot going on. Well, Brisbane has just scored a major coup in the exciting world of... (drumroll) LEGO®. While this may not seem like earth-shattering news to some of you, it is a matter of great import to those who love LEGO®, especially the eight year old boys of my association. This feather in Brisbane's exhibition cap is the world premiere of Wonders of the World , the newest LEGO® spectacular from 'the Brickman', Ryan McNaught. Take that Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. It hits the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Wednesday 23 November for 3 weeks of giant LEGO® displays and interactive fun.

There were seven Wonders of the Ancient World: the Great Pyramid at Giza; the Hanging Gardens of Babylon; the Statue of Zeus; the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus; the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus; the Colossus of Rhodes; and the Lighthouse at Alexandria. Much debate has raged over a newer version, with a competition from 2001 to 2006 determining the New7Wonders of the World as the Great Wall of China; Petra, Jordan: Christ the Redeemer in Brazil; Machu Picchu; Chichen Itza in Mexico; the Colosseum; the Taj Mahal; and the Great Pyramid of Giza. That's actually eight, in case you were counting, because the Egyptians thought that the Great Pyramid of Giza shouldn't have to compete for the honour and everyone was kept happy by naming it an honorary candidate.

Thankfully, McNaught and his band of constructors are above the political considerations of such decisions and he has decided his own list of 'humanity's most amazing achievements' — more than fifty of them — and spent a mind-boggling 4,944 hours bringing his visions to life. You'll be amazed by his Great Wall of China, impressed with his Empire State building (complete with King Kong), gobsmacked by his Arc de Triomphe and mindblown by his incredible Statue of David. Other models include the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Mona Lisa and Mt Rushmore.

In true McNaught style this is not one of those sterile exhibitions. Plaques on display with each exhibit will provide you with information about the original 'wonder' and how the models were built, and best of all, you can get involved and add to the exhibition with your own LEGO® creativity. Just try to stop the kids taking part in that.

McNaught says "I am beyond excited to debut the global premiere of my brand new exhibition, Wonders of the World, in Brisbane. Nothing like this exhibition has ever been seen before, every model is brand new and way more detailed than anything I've ever created"."The exhibition is super interactive with lots of activities for LEGO® fanatics to get involved in. Ever wanted to build a statue of yourself next to the mighty Statue of David? Now is your chance, how about helping build cars to make the traffic jam around the Arc de Triomphe? I've got so many things I need help with, hopefully all the budding builders out there are up to the challenge!" added Ryan. There is also a fun Facebook competition where you can win a family pass to a Wonders of the World show of your choice, AND you will be recreated as a Lego Minifig and included with one of the models. How cool is that? Enter here by saying what you think is a Wonder of the World and why. The competition closes on Sunday 13th November, so don't miss your chance to be immortalised in LEGO®.
