Located right in the heart of Wondai at the roundabout, in the old railway house, is the Wondai Reginal Art Gallery. Like most small galleries, it is run by some very dedicated volunteers and they do a spectacular job. Every month there is a new exhibition and they are already booked out for the next two years.

I was very fortunate to visit, twice, during the Vincent Serico exhibition, the second time to view it again as it was very impressive. Vincent was born in Brisbane, separated from his family at age four and taken to the Cherbourg Aboriginal Mission. Hence the Wondai Art gallery was asked to take his exhibition because of the close proximity of Wondai to Cherbourg. His paintings all tell a vivid story of Aborigine lives and their culture.

The entry path to the gallery is delightful and a testament to the hard-working volunteers. The perfume from the roses was breathtaking. A lovely way to welcome visitors. The gallery has a few interesting items for sale and some artwork owned by the gallery is on display.

To greet you at the roadside is a beautifully presented wee billabong with two dingos who have come in for a drink. The gallery is open 7 days a week from 10 am till 4 pm. Ph 41685926
