Come on Ladies - gear up and ride together
The boys love their bikes, but more and more so do the ladies. Perhaps the thought of motorbike ladies conjures up images of pillion riders, tiny little things in skin tight letters or huge tattoo covered scary looking ladies. Yes, women riders come in all shapes and sizes, but you may be surprised to see the large influx of everyday housewives and mums that are taking to their bikes too.

Whether you're looking for adventure, a means to escape the housework or just a break from the endless questions from kids, many women are discovering a love of the road.

So you've done it all right, you're trained up, you've got your license and a bike to ride, but just need a riding buddy.

How to connect with mixed gender and female riding groups:

Begin by looking on facebook, meet up and google, you'll discover many different groups to connect with.

A new group "The Melbourne Moto Ladies" has just commenced on meetup to get the gals out riding together (all levels of experience and bikes are welcome).

Melbourne Motorcycle crew ask for $20 per year to join them on meet up and in exchange are pretty active with their rides, this is a mixed gender group with the organisers being Mary and Cristian.

If in NSW you may enjoy the Girls Ride Out.

For even the youngest of riders - there's the Pink Ladies Racing Team.

In Queensland, Kysa share rides and track days.

Connecting women riders all over Australia is the Womens International Motorcycle Association

For the over 40s you may enjoy the Ulysses club, although women are welcome this does tend to be a slightly more male oriented group. In Melbourne, or overall.

If you really want to get away for it all and have a bit of a blast for a few days, come along to one of the Babe Raids in Ballina (NSW) and Warnambool (Vic). It is a large gathering - pretty much exclusively for the ladies with rides, get togethers, fund raising, costume parties and aimed to bring women riders all over the country together.

Take a look at my other articles on how to become a lady rider and some of the best places to ride in Melbourne.

I would love this article to be the beginning of a great resource, do you have a group or location to share to being women riders together?

We'd love to hear from you, please add your thoughts and suggestions/ comments in the comments box on this article. Maybe we'll meet up for a ride somewhere.

Canberra and its environs are good for shorter local rides where the country can be combined with the city benefits of cafes. Is there any interest out there for women riders over fifty who would like to ride without the pressure of endurance and who enjoy conversation and a coffee afterwards?
