There are thousands of women and children around Australia who are living an unfair life, built upon the fear of violence. And it's happening in their own homes - the one place everybody should feel safe.
Many women are given no other option but to flee their own home to end the heartbreak and destructive domestic violence cycle. Sometimes they have to escape with merely a backpack on their backs.
During Women on the Run, participants are encouraged to bring a backpack and fill it with a sandbag. The sandbag will reflect the weight of the struggles faced by women and children all over the country.
Participants will then trek together from the Henley Beach Jetty to the Grange Beach Jetty, and return. In total, it will be a 4km run/walk.
This event aims to bring awareness to the severity and widespread nature of domestic violence.
All funds raised will be used to support victims in Australia.
Registering is $40 per adult and $20 per child. The run begins at 7:30am, and the entire event should conclude around 11am.
The sandbags are provided by the event organisers on the day, and it is up to each individual as to what weight they put in their backpacks. You can also participate without any weight.
