Wollongong Botanic Garden is situated in the foothills of the Illawarra region and feature an amazing variety of native and flowering plants from around the world.

The Garden features the following:

Rose Garden – This is the home to a mixture of hybrid teas, floribundas and standard roses. Peak flowering times are mid October to April and it is also the most popular wedding venue during this time.

Azalea Bank – This collection of azaleas makes a colourful display in July, August and September and is suitable for larger outdoor functions

Middle Creek – Middle Creek is a natural watercourse area with modern landscaping and the sound of natural flowing water.

Woodland Garden – This area displays a selection of perennials, bulbs and cool climate trees and shrubs in a natural woodland setting.

Rainforests – This area showcases a number of rainforest communities including the Illawarra rainforest.

Dryland Area – This section displays Australian plants that grow naturally in regions experiencing low average rainfall.

Succulent Mound – This part of the garden showcases a selection of African and American succulents and provides a stunning backdrop for outdoor functions.

Sandstone Collection – This section displays plants that are found on the sandstone of the Shoalhave and Illawarra regions.

Herb Gardens – This is a formal raised garden with a large selection of herbs including bay trees, lemongrass, mint, chives, rosemary and thyme.

The Discovery Centre – This caters for students of all ages and runs a number of regular school activities as well as school holiday programs.

All Abilities Play Garden – This special playground includes swings, sand pit and slippery dop as well as a climbing net, viewing platform and maze.

Staff at the Gardens offer walking or bus tours, which generally take an hour and run between 8am to 2pm Monday to Friday. You will need to contact the Botanic Gardens office to make a booking.

Roller blades, bikes, scooters, skateboards are not permitted in the gardens. Also BBQs, ball games and camping are not allowed.
