Wolfe Island is the largest of the famed Thousand Islands along Saint Lawrence River in Ontario. It is named after General James Wolfe and has a population of about 1400 people with the majority living in Marysville. Interestingly, its population doubles in number during the summer months due to the movement of seasonal residents.
Wolfe Island is accessible by a 20-minute ferry ride from Kingston. The ferry is free of charge and operates every hour for most of the day. A detailed schedule can be found on its
website.
Its famous
Wolfe Island Bakery is located just by the ferry's summer dock at Marysville. Only open between May and October, this bakery is a must for butter tart lovers. It also offers a selection of bread, pastries and squares.
Since it was a Sunday when we visited, we decided to join in for a service at its
Wolfe Island United Church. The church is on Victoria Street which is within walking distance from the ferry. A map is available from the
visitor information centre.
