It may seem that I love pop-up experiences and that would be true, it's an opportunity to have a new experience that only lasts in a certain time frame never to happen again. The food at pop-up dinners is always interesting and fresh and WLG pop-up dinner was certainly that.
They popped up on Gertrude street for 2 weeks to bring to Melbourne all the tasty delights of Wellington, New Zealand. The food itself was incredible fresh fish, kiwifruit pickles, goats cheese drenched in Manuka honey, and venison spring rolls to name a few.
Needless to say the wines from Hawkes Bay and deserts were amazing, particularly a liquorice panna cotta with brandy snap.
The only gripe I had is the staff seemed so on edge, coming from New Zealand myself I was expecting a sense of relaxed friendly service that I was familiar with. Instead of that they were rushing people out the door for the next lot, not even attempting to seat people off the street and they refused to bring us tap water because they had 'no jugs'. It was slightly disappointing to be represented this way.
