For those of you who enjoy spectacular musical performances and wonderful entertainment under the stars in a picnic environment, the 10th annual Wittunga Under the Stars musical event will be held on Friday, 17th February, 2012.
Originally known as Wittunga Jazz this event, organised by the Lions Club of Blackwood Inc is in aid of the Blackwood After Hours Clinic. These musical evenings have enjoyed great community success and has strong support from The Botanic Gardens of Adelaide. It is held in the Wittunga Botanic Gardens, Shepherds Hill Road, Eden Hills.

The Blackwood Lions have organised once again another fabulous family event this year with the following exciting line-up of entertainment including: the polished St Johns Grammar School Band who made an inspiring performance in 2011, and have been invited back by request.

The Bearded Gypsy Band - This Adelaide Hills band has played their cheerful instrumental gypsy-jazz blend at many gigs in the hills, and in 2010 they were invited to perform at the Adelaide Fringe, Human Rights Arts & Film Festival and several other festivals. A NSW tour followed at the Illawarra Folk Festival, then back home again to the Black Cockatoo Art House in McLaren Vale on the evening after the Tour Down Under had gone through.[/LINK]
The New Orleans Ramblers are a local hills muso jazz group who excel in playing authentic New Orleans parade jazz, with Ron Flack (Clarinet), Phil Day (Banjo), Dave Sutton (1920s Washboard and Graham Eames (Trumpet). This year they have a surprise in-store; Hmm...I wonder what that could that be?
limited Edition - an 8-part a-Capella vocal group which began 20 years ago when 8 friends shared a special interest in singing. Today, their love of music is clearly evident with a rich repertoire, which includes various genres: jazz, classical, pop, gospel and more.

BecJM & Ellington's Heirs - BecJM is rated amongst Adelaide's leading jazz vocalists with a "serious jazz voice" which has the "feel of Freda Payne". The music selection includes the music of WW 2 era including the toe-tapping" songs of The Andrew Sisters, Louis Jordan and Vera Lynn.
What makes Wittunga Under the Stars a unique concert experience is the relaxed environment where you can make yourself comfortable on a rug or cushion, with your picnic basket and a BYO liquor license, which has been obtained for the evening. Food will also be available at the Lions BBQ with salad, as well as drinks, ice cream, coffee from the Coffee King, French style pancakes by Zavier and scrumptious deserts from the Eden Hills Scout Group. For the children, free face painting will be available.
Housekeeping: Tickets are available on the night at the gate or can be purchased from Blackwood Pharmacy in the Foodland Shopping Centre, Iain Evans MP office - 7 Young Street, Blackwood and Alezandrou Estates, 187D Main Road, Blackwood (next to Banner); or by phoning Heath on 8278 2655 and John on 8278 1230. Tickets are: Adults $15.00, Pension holder $12.50, Family $35.00 ( 2 adults and 2 children) and Children $5.00.
Thanks Hayden, it doesn't matter how old or young we are this style of music has become eternal and extremely enduring. It is relaxing, exciting but most of all, enjoyable at all times.
