Now I don't usually start on the wine at 10am, but as the saying goes "it's five o'clock somewhere", and this was a special occasion.

And special it was. The in Mount Tambourine was beautiful with acres of vineyard, stunning gardens and fascinating production rooms and cellars.

My parents were visiting and I wanted to do something a little different and away from the beaches and coast, so I thought the Hinterland would be good. After some research of the area this winery looked like exactly what I was looking for.

Heading to Mount Tambourine for the day our plans had changed a little and we ended up going there at just after 10am - in fact just as the cellar door opened - so I was unsure of what would be available at that time.

The staff were bright and welcoming, they offer full tours but we opted for the $6 flight of wine, where you get to sample 6 different wines, each with their own style and story behind them. It was great to find out more about the winery and the owners - this is one of the only wineries that also produces their wine on site.

The lady who talked us through each wine was engaging, funny and down to earth. I love wine but I don't like the pretence that you can sometimes get. She was cheeky, interesting and highly knowledgable.

The wines were great - three white and three red - each different flavours, tastes and styles of fermenting which made a huge difference to the end result. Usually I just drink wine but it was interesting to hear about the process and how different methods, timings and styles can affect taste. We especially loved two of the wines and my parents bought a couple of bottles as a treat, both $32.

The vineyard and gardens were beautiful and picturesque - if we had had more time I'd have loved to have bought a glass of my favourite wine and sat in the gardens taking in the chilled out vibe, and fresh air of the mountain.

For $6 per person you got roughly a quarter of a glass of wine to taste, so in total you probably have a couple of glasses of wine. I certainly felt a little merry when we were leaving.
The conversation was lighthearted but informative and I loved the touches in the cellar door area of the old book case, seeing the wine production area through the glass panels and the large clock that is always set at 10 past 12 - so it's always drinking time.

My parents loved it - it was a wonderful treat and great start to the day. If only every day could start like that. Just as we were leaving a coach party turned up which made me think we turned up as exactly the right time.

is located on Main Western Road in Mount Tambourine, about five minutes drive from the famous Gallery Walk and next to Tambourine National Park. It is about 45 minutes drive from the Gold Coast and is open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm and on the weekend 10am to 5pm.
