Here's a fun place to visit with kids in Bali, especially if you'd like a more local Indonesian experience.

I have written before about Taman Pancing (Fishing Park), a grassy area either side of a river that stretches about 4km south out of Denpasar.

This area is popular among locals for morning walks, afternoons lazing in the shade of the trees, and evenings gathering with friends.

Recently, though, a new tourist attraction has sprung up and become very popular among locals. The full name of this place is (and on the map they are labelled I & II, as there is one area on each side of the river).

It is, essentially, a small fun fair with boat trips, horse rides, jumping castles, and an assortment of food stalls and other little attractions.

This is not a permanent fixture; every weekend afternoon it springs up, and by Monday morning it is gone again.

While adults might enjoy the boat trips along the river, which last a few minutes each, the rest of the attractions are geared towards kids.

They can drive remote control cars, play in ball pits, paint a picture, or tire themselves out bouncing around on a trampoline or an inflatable castle.

There is no entry fee, and everything costs 10,000 IDR (1 AUD) per person, making it accessible to the majority of families in the area.

In addition to the attractions, there are plenty of food and drink stalls - although don't expect anything particularly healthy or nutritious. I'd recommend the nearby Geslim Cafe for a more substantial meal in the area.

Both 'sides' of this fun fair have more or less the same things going on, but it's set up right by a bridge, so you can easily cross over and explore the other side if you wish.

It's easy enough to park a motorbike nearby, along the main road that runs parallel to the river. It may take longer to find a good spot to park a car.

If you're visiting as a foreigner, you'll find that most of the stall owners speak little English, but it's easy enough to communicate about prices. You can also expect plenty of friendly questions from intrigued locals.

So, if you're looking for something a bit different to do with kids on a weekend afternoon, and you're interested in seeing what Indonesian family entertainment is like, come along to .
