Wirrina Cove Resort is located on Paradise Drive Wirrina Cove. It is on the Fleureu Peninsula of South Australia, a mere twenty km from Cape Jervis.
This golf resort and function centre are surrounded by natural beauty. This starts with the riverlet you cross on the road in, which in the right season is bursting with flowering lilies. Then you come to a row of flowering trees along the centre of the drive. Finally, you arrive at the resort, which is surrounded by natural bush and backs onto a golf course.
A little further down the track is Wirrina Cove Marina, which is still under construction, but has the potential for all sorts of boating recreation.
Wirrina Cove Resort is available for weddings and the beauty of the grounds would make for very romantic wedding photographs. The resort is normally exclusive but offers specials and off-season deals.
Some of these specials include a winter getaway and a family package. I love packages, so I read these through. The family package with the unlimited put-put sounds good, however, the one thing I did not check out was their put-put area. Some people say it requires maintenance. However, the gym and pool and restaurant are all functioning.
The best way to get a special is to check those booking sites that offer accommodation only and find a markdown on a room. These are even cheaper than the winter packages, which include many extras.
A final word is about food. Due to the isolation, food options in Wirrina are limited. You can drive to Normanville, Cape Jarvis or Yankalilla for evening takeaway or even a pub meal. The on-site restaurant is quite expensive and requires bookings because I suspect that they don't open regularly in the offseason. However, the snack bar offers specials and if you order before it closes at 5 pm, the staff are very obliging.
We had toasties and chips, a good deal for less than $10. I'm not sure they would do this every time, but we got lucky and organised a pizza to take back to our room for the first evening. The second evening, we went out to eat.
