If you're taking a drive through McLaren Vale then make sure you stop off at . It is a lovely spot to not only spy the sprawling vineyards, but to also grab some free wine tastings at their cellar door and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Wirra Wirra have some delicious wines that receive praises every year. You can try them all for free at the cellar door, and if you like what you taste buy a bottle or glass to enjoy there, or take some home for later. If you like their Mrs. Wigley Moscato then make sure you ask the bartender if he can make you a gin and moscato cocktail. You can also enjoy a selection of cheeses, try some inside or take some outside and set up a picnic. If you're lucky there might even be a live band or musician playing at the cellar door, you can enjoy the music while you sip your wine.

Wirra Wirra have a gorgeous outdoor space, where people can feel free to set up their own picnic or barbeque. There are two barbeques and undercover tables and chairs. You could always bring along a blanket and set up a picnic on the lush grass. While you're outside make sure you head over to the viewing platform where you can get a great look at all of the Wirra Wirra vines.

Feel free to bring the kids along to Wirra Wirra, while they won't be allowed to have any tastings, they are very welcome. When you visit the cellar door there is a box of toys for the kids to play with while you try the wine. Heading outside to the barbeque and picnic spot there is plenty of space for kids to run around, and you can even bring the dog along too.

Wirra Wirra has a very unique outlook on their winery. It was re-established in 1969 by Greg Trott. It was Greg who decided to set up the impressive wooden fence out the front of Wirra Wirra, made from old redgums. It was also Greg who had the idea to construct a medieval trebuchet. On his birthday the vineyard launch watermelons into the vineyards with the catapault in celebration.

Wirra Wirra is a picturesque spot, and it is well worth spending some time here as you make your way through the McLaren Vale wineries. Enjoy some wine and the brilliant view, and make sure you take some wines home to enjoy later.
