Ice rinks are popping up everywhere around the city this winter and CarriageWorks at the old Eveleigh rail yards is making sure it doesn't miss out by hosting its very first Festival from 5 to 31 July.

As the centrepiece of the event, the foyer will be transformed into an indoor ice skating rink that will be open all day during the school holidays, while a series of themed nights will be held during the evenings. Skating sessions are 45 minutes long, giving everyone a chance to take those first slippery steps while clinging on for dear life by the side or the opportunity for the more experience to show-off their skating skills.

And in the lead up to the weekends, Thursday nights will be a stage for emerging and established bands such as The Lurkers, Kate Duffy and The Preachers to play sounds of Alternate Country, Acoustic/Folk or Jazz. There will also be a night dedicated for new and unsigned bands presented by 2SER to perform in front of a live audience, as well as industry heads. Meanwhile, Friday nights will be the chance to bogey down to a little disco fever with music provided from the Future Classic DJs.

Events held on Saturdays will be ever-changing, allowing everyone in the family to get involved in music and arts and crafts. There'll also be market design stalls curated by the folks of The Finders Keepers.

Admission to is free while a small fee will be charged for ice skating that also includes skate hire.
