Experience the spectacle of a Gold Rush Christmas
If you're looking to get in touch with your inner snow bunny this winter, look no further than Sovereign Hill. This already fantastic attraction turns things up a notch every July when it plays host to a Christmas-in-July event. This year's event is called Winter Wonderlights and promises to wow visitors with a wintry experience like no other.

Just in time for the winter school holidays, this event runs from June 29th until July 21st. The highlights of Winter Wonderland will no doubt be the falling snow and the beautiful lights. Snowfalls (the pretend kind) will happen every day of the event at set times: 11.45 am, 1.40 pm, 3.40 pm and 5.45 pm. The wonderlights after which the event is named, can be seen on Main Street as soon as the sun goes down, projected onto the unique facades of the goldrush buildings. There is also a Light Tunnel; a new feature which will provide twinkle and sparkle on the cold, dark nights.

There are plenty of other wintry activities to be enjoyed such as take-home craft kits for the kids, a European style street market, Christmas story-telling, a brass band and a range of shows in the Victoria Theatre. All of these features are included in the cost of your entry ticket to Sovereign Hill, which will be open from 10am until 7pm each day of the event. A family ticket for 2 adults and up to 4 children will set you back $157. To see other ticket options, click here. All of the usual Sovereign Hill favourites will also available such as panning for gold and exploring a typical gold mining town from yesteryear. If you haven't visited before, read a review of Sovereign Hill here.

There is an option to add extras to your ticket at a cost. One such extra is Aura – a multi-sensory sound-and-light experience. This runs each night of Winter Wonderlights and combines 3D cinema, projections and storytelling to put you in the heart of the action as you discover how gold revolutionised Australia. It's not on our agenda this year but I have long wanted to go so I'll aim for 2020.
