Ice skating by the beach, under the dome
This winter, get your skates on and head to the dome in Glenelg. South Australia's first clear domed marquee will be the place to be from 1 to 22 July 2018, as mother winter spreads her icy fingers around Adelaide and onto Moseley Square at Glenelg to create a Winter Wonderland. Whatever the weather, rain, hail or shine, there is lots of fun to be had as this year, not only can you ice skate, you can also toboggan right beside the beach and in front of the Jetty.
A one-hour skating session costs $16.35 adults (15 and above), $11.25 child (2 to 14), $37.75 family (2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children). For those littlies who are not confident, why not hire a skating aid (penguin) for just $5.65. If you like the idea of tobogganing, 3 rides will cost you just $11.25.
Winter Wonderland is open Sunday to Thursday 10 am to 8 pm and Friday and Saturday 10 am to 9.30 pm with sessions available at ever 1.5 hours from 10 am. Tickets are available now and it is recommended that you purchase early, as in previous years they have sold out early.
Make sure you bring along warm winter clothing including socks, gloves, scarves and a change of clothes if you are like me and spend more time on the ice than gliding above it.
Grab your Winter Warmers Voucher Book from the website (from 1 July), for great discounts around Glenelg. Spoil yourself with some retail therapy, a coffee and more once you have finished skating.
Group and School Bookings are available by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org.
Getting to Glenelg is easy either by public transport or by car. Catch a city to Glenelg tram and hop off right in Moseley Square in front of the ice rink. Alternatively, catch a bus and take a short walk along Colley Terrace.
Free parking options are at Glenelg Oval (on non-match days), then catch a free tram to Moseley Square, Anzac Highway (centre strip) and a short walk or find a free 2P or 3P parking space in Glenelg's side streets.
Paid parking is available in ticketed spaces on Dunbar Terrace, Elizabeth Street or Colley Terrace with undercover parking available in the Beachhouse of The Grand car parks. Head to Wilson Parking and enter the code "WINTER" for a $5 flat rate (max 12 hours) at the Beachhouse car park.
