On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 June, oenophiles and food-obsessed Victorians are invited to the upcoming Winter WineFest in the Nillumbik area.

Wine takes centre stage at this epicurean extravaganza, but scrumptious eats come a close second. This is your opportunity to sample the best high quality wines produced by eight boutique Nillumbik wineries. Reps will be pouring samples and serving a selection of tempting treats.

Take a look at the various happenings around the region below.

The Hildebrand Ridge Organic Vineyard (160 Hildebrand Road, Cottles Bridge) is open to visitors during Winter WineFest from 11am to 5pm. Enjoy a glass of organic wine or boutique beer by the fire. Choose from the beef Burgundy or curried vegetable pie to complement your libations and if you prefer something sweet then try the rhubarb and apple pie. Of course, there will be plenty of live music for you to enjoy.

Stop by Lovegrove Vineyard & Winery (1420 Heidelberg-Kinglake Road, Cottles Bridge) to raise a glass to celebrate the winery's top quality wines. Settle by the fireplace or soak up the winter sun in the courtyard and indulge in a glass of wine accompanied by an appetising menu calibrated to suit every taste.

Nillumbik Estate (195 Clintons Road, Smiths Gully) is offering a variety of gourmet pizzas as well as a selection of yummy sweet temptations to go with your glass of wine. Soak up the sweeping views across to the Kinglake Ranges while listening to some tunes.

Head to Panton Hill Vineyard & Winery (145 Manuka Road, Panton Hill) to enjoy a warming winter fare. Presenting a collection of the finest estate grown and produced wines, this family-run winery caters for all tastes with dry, sweet, sparkling and fortified wines available for tasting. In addition, a menu of delicious bites such as antipasti, rustic Italian casserole with herbs and garlic, warm almond meal and raspberry slice and ice-cream will satiate your taste buds.

Anticipate a unique experience at Redbox Vineyard (2 Ness Lane, Kangaroo Ground). Soak up the flavours of their great wines paired with mouth-watering Thai pumpkin soup and finger food platter.

Samson Hill Estate (360 Eltham-Yarra Glen Road, Kangaroo Ground) specialises in various red, white and sparkling wines. While you sip and sample their delicious wines, why not order a Samson Hill platter to share? This special platter features an assortment of lip-smacking bites including calamari, prawns, fish fillets, prosciutto, chorizo, marinated vegetables, creamy fetta, and marinated olives plus a trio of dips with Turkish bread.

Prepare to be dazzled at Shaws Road Winery (225 Shaws Road, Arthurs Creek). Choose from their fantastic range of wines to sample including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rosé, Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Merlot and heaps more. And while you wine, make sure you dine on delectable dishes such as spicy lamb on Turkish bread, butternut pumpkin soup or a traditional ploughman's lunch platter. For those who are in the mood for dessert can indulge in pears poached in red wine or a rich chocolate cheese cake.

Yarrambat Estate (45 Laurie Stret, Yarrambat) invites you to try a glass for their high quality wines complemented by a gourmet cheese and antipasto platter. And make sure you take in the views of the vineyard across to Mt Sugarloaf while you're there.

All participating vineyards are only 10 minutes from each other and just 35 minutes from the Melbourne CBD. So you can easily visit a couple of wineries on a day trip or organise a weekend escape to visit them all.

And if you need another reason to attend what's sure to be a heavenly bash, the various menus offered are just $10 to $15 per serve, making this event super affordable.
