Winter is one of those seasons that you either love or hate and if it is not your favourite season it can feel like it is never going to end. In fact, while there has not been a lot of research into it to date, it is well known that seasonal affective disorder (SAD), the winter blues or winter depression is real and affects a significant portion of the population.

It is also well known that music is a source of therapy that has positive effects on a range of conditions. Music can be used for relaxation, to lift your mood and help you to cope when external factors are affecting your wellbeing. Music is also a way to focus and become grounded in the present moment.

If you suffer from the SAD or would like to learn how to use music as therapy, come along to the Kathleen Syme Library and Community Centre, 251 Faraday Street, Carlton for . Held on Tuesdays from 6.30 pm to 7.30 from 5 to 26 June 2018, the sessions will provide the opportunity to listen to and work with music to find a more mindful state.

Sessions will include deep listening immersion, guided mindfulness exercises and brief discussion on how to use music to support our own mental health and wellbeing.

Sessions are FREE and designed for 15 to 30 year olds, no experience is necessary and beginners are welcome. Bookings are essential .
