I'm always looking for new things to do on a Friday and this Winter Perth has a host of festivities for any budding city explorer. I'm excited to try out the Winter Supper Club again and see what is on offer. I went last month and the food was delectable. I tried the spicy pulled pork roll and sipped on some mulled wine until the crepes caught my eye!
The markets will have a community night feel and will be presented on the last Friday of every winter month –June (past) July & August. The markets will trade from 5pm to 9pm for late night shoppers and those attending Winter Arts Festival Events. They are nestled in and around the town hall. It is a busy event so I would recommend getting in early and finding a seat or taking a stroll. There is a strong Christmassy feel which is perfect for July in Perth.
The fifth annual Winter Supper Club sees seven new stalls and food trucks join a changing line-up of 18 vendors each month, plus roving accordion, guitar and ukulele players, and a pop-up bar. I would recommend walking around first – don't be afraid to turn the corners or investigate the avenues to ensure you get to see the full range of food & festivities on offer.
New food highlights include Twin Beaks' brioche burgers of duck confit with a choice of three toppings: goats' cheese and beetroot relish, blue cheese and quince chutney, or pecorino with truffle oil and caramelised onion. This comes highly recommend by a friend so I think this will be my choice this time.
La Bombetta debuts with grass-fed beef and potato galette with smoked onion puree, and slow cooked free range pork belly and pickles on brioche which I have tasted and I'm still thinking about how delightful it was. The Supper Club brings gourmet soups like pumpkin & coconut, and tomato, goats' cheese & basil, served in a bread bowl. This is a great feast to warm you up on these cold July nights.
New food trucks will extend onto Hay Street: visiting small-batch roasters Gypsy Part of Town making coffee, chai, and arepas (filled corn cakes); The Pasta Truck with slow cooked brisket ragout rigatoni and pesto pumpkin & ricotta ravioli; and Empire's GF & veg Turkish menu including lamb & okra with pomegranate and herb & seed crusted wedges.

Other plentiful vegetarian and gluten-free options include El Alamen's GF vegetarian sausages and Ragin Cajun's vegetarian gumbo, while many other stalls can cater to special dietary requirements on request. Enjoy your rustic supper with a palette-cleansing Moroccan mint tea, warming mulled wine, winter cocktail, or several varieties of hot chocolate including peppermint and vanilla.
A good point to note is that I did bring cash but plenty of the vendors accept cards – including the bar…which may or may not be a good thing! There really is something for a wide variety of diets and preference. Definitely worth a look if you are looking for something new to do this Friday! Bring your coat and get some fresh winter air whilst having a nice hot mulled wine.
