A retired business owner, my passions are cooking, photography and eating. I use all three of these when I write for recipeyum.com.au which is on HubGarden
This is a street party with a difference
This winter event is organised by the Wyndham City and supported by the Wyndham Business and Tourism Association. The city lights will light up after dark and there will be fabulous light installations, which alone will be worth going to see.
There will also be street performers, children's activities and to ease the cold, some warming winter treats from some of the city's traders. This year's program will also have the following attractions and displays:
A glowing dream bear
A dazzling displays of fire and ice
There will be a "touch of magic" to the Werribee City Centre and this will occur over four major precincts of Station Place, Watton Street, Wedge St Piazza and the Wyndham Cultural Centre.
In Station Place, you can be enchanted by What's That, by renown Australian artist, Amanda Parer. This is a glowing, inflatable giant that has toured the world, including such cities as Prague, Amsterdam and Montreal.
This is almost two storey high and this striking work is one of Parer's Fantastic Planet illuminated sculptures. This was inspired by the animated science fiction film Fantastic Planet, and these giants from afar appear poised to explore their surroundings!
There is also neon by Carla O'Brien who is a Melbourne based international artist. Fresh from White Night, Carla will bring her playful interactive works to Watton Street. This will include the following:
Baby Angel Wings
I Heart U
And the debut of a new work – Balloon
Vibrant and glowing bright at night, these touchable works are created with LED Neon Flex. This is a new replacement for glass neon and gives an immersive 3D multi-colour experience like no other!
You will also be able to attend workshops including ones where you will make snow domes, lanterns, or miniature snowmen to take home. These free workshops will be in Station Place and the Werribee Library.
As well as all this, there will be live street art, a silent disco dance party, glow-in-the-dark face painting and even glow-in-the-dark bubbles!
If you enter the lane-ways off Station Place, you will find a disco with a twist. Take some headphones, choose your DJ, visuals and dance moves for a smashing good time, which only you can hear!
Immerse yourself in an open-air gallery showing images created by local artists, Hengamah Ghaderi and Imran Abul Kasheem. Each artist shows you an insight into what it means to live in Wyndham.
The weaving installation work Seven Sisters Dancing tells the story of the Pleiades or the Seven Sisters constellation in the stars. This story is a universal story over many indigenous communities.
There will be a colourful presence across the Piazza, where there are three larger than life Babushka dolls. The Babushka dolls depict some of the wonderful women who are proud to call Wyndham their home.
Roving performers will be performing throughout the night. Some of these include:
Fireflies: by Indirect Object
Be enchanted by the giant Firefly puppets. This roving performance will light up the night as they fly together in a luminous nighttime dance of love.
Fire and Ice - is it a soaring eagle or a slippery seal? You can watch a master at work, while he transforms blocks of ice into beautiful animal sculptures. This is done using chisels, saws and chainsaws! Plus you can see dazzling fire shows throughout the night.
Local shops will be open late to create a busy winter marketplace of winter foods, piping hot chocolates and special winter offers.
You can be part of the art and take part in Cats on Film. This is a showcase of homemade cat videos, as well your internet favourites in the Wyndham Cultural Centre!
