Come on Winter Light my Fire
Collingwood Children's Farm Facebook

In Tasmania they have a nudist swim to celebrate the Winter Solstice (the longest night of the year.) I couldn't think of anything worse. It's cold--give me fire.

And Melbourne does do fire with flare!

Montsalvat

Montsalvat Facebook

Montsalvat in Eltham is again doing their Winter Solstice celebration. They build a towering colossal inferno of a fire. And the setting is amazing, against the gothic almost medieval buildings built by Justus Jorgensen and his colonists back in the 1930s.

Everything here is creative. You'll find beautiful music, great food, a kids' lantern parade and fire twirlers.

Tickets are now available for presale. This is to avoid queues as this great event is growing and now attracts over 1500 people.

You can see how excited the crowd gets about their towering inferno in the video below.

Belgrave Lantern Parade

The Belgrave Lantern Parade is another gorgeous community event. The 2014 Parade will be held on Saturday June 21st. Music on the street starts at 4pm and the parade starts from Hayes Car Park at 5:30pm, doing a loop of the main street. Spectators can view the parade along the main street between Terry's Avenue and Reynolds Avenue.

For more information about the event and lantern making workshops visit tthis website

There is a lovely Youtube video below which shows just how gentle, folksy and creative this community festival in the hills is.
