707 Operations is whisking families off to the delightful town of Gisborne for an exciting day trip these Winter school holidays!
On Sunday 7 July, you and your family can hop aboard an authentic steam hauled heritage train departing Southern Cross Station and enjoy a fun-filled trip through the Macedon Ranges, with an optional Day Tour Experience with regional winery tour or connections to the Daylesford Sunday Markets and the Daylesford Spa Country Railway.
The vintage train will depart from Melbourne, Southern Cross at 10.30 am on Sunday the 7 July 2019, travelling to Gisborne. You will have 4 hours before the return train departs, which is enough time to venture in the Gisborne township or enjoy lunch at the Baringo Food & Wine Co, across the road from Gisborne Station (bookings are recommended). Alternatively, take the coach connection to Daylesford for their Sunday Market at the Daylesford Spa Country Railway or a railmotor journey with the Daylesford Spa Country Railway.
You can also upgrade to the Day Experience option, with travel in the historic Spirit of Progress Dining Car and lounge Carriage. Travelling to Gisborne, guests will be served morning tea in the Dining Car as they travel through Melbourne's suburbs and head north. At Gisborne, guests will transfer to a coach that will visit two boutique wineries within the Macedon Ranges region for tastings. Return to the train and the Dining Car for the journey back to Southern Cross Station, where afternoon tea will be served on the journey home.
This is a rare opportunity to enjoy the Dining Car and fine food, as your steam hauled train works hard climbing the foothills of the Great Dividing Range.
The standard class carriages feature open saloon and compartment style seating areas in carriages which date from the 1950s. A licenced cafe carriage will be attached and is available for all passengers throughout the journey, serving a wide range of beer, wines and spirits along with light snacks and tea and coffee.
The train will depart Southern Cross station at 10.30 am, picking up additional passengers at Footscray (10.40 am) before arriving into Gisborne at 11.35 am.
The return journey will depart Gisborne station at 3.35 pm, and arrive back into Southern Cross Station at 5.05 pm, with a stop at Footscray Station at 4.55 pm to set down passengers.
