Would your child love to join an art class these school holidays? Or would they prefer to learn something new with technology, or run around being active? Around the city these school holidays there are programs and workshops to suit almost every interest - some last for a few hours, some run for a whole week. There are also workshops where parents can join in too - why should the kids have all the fun! The following are 15 choices around the Capital to entertain your kids these school holidays - with so many choices however, it may be hard to pick just one...

CREATIVE FUN

1/ Lavender Art Studios in Phillip will once again be holding their drawing, painting, sculpting, print-making and illuminated school holiday art workshops for children aged 5-13 years. Cost is $60 per session (price includes materials, morning and afternoon tea). See here to book.

2/ Canberra Potters Society in Watson have three exciting school holiday workshops on offer. Choose between "Family Fun with Clay" for the whole family to make something together. Cost is $140 per person. "Clay Day" is for kids aged 8 and over to try a range of clay techniques all in the one day. Cost is $180. 3/ Kids Pantry in Deakin holds kids cooking classes all year around and has plenty of options for these school holidays. This winter, learn how to make sausage rolls, puddings, apple turnovers, chocolate crackle cheesecake (yum!) and much more. Prices start from $45. See here to book.



4/ Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) in the CBD has two winter school holiday programs in various locations to choose from. In the gallery itself, children can enjoy some art-inspired fun and games in the Nolan Collection Gallery and experiment with elements of design - then transform their ideas into a folio of colourful prints in the CMAG studio. At their property at Lanyon Homestead they will also be conducting a "Wind and Wire Sculpture" class with artist Amanda Stuart, using materials from around the property. Cost is $10. 5/ Canberra Glassworks in Kingston will be running three workshops - "Hanky Lampshades" shows kids how to make an Art Deco kiln slumped glass lampshade - complete with stand and working bulb. Cost is $70. "Frosty Fantasy Tile" shows kids how to make their own frozen frieze glass masterpiece. Cost $50. Lastly, the whole family can get involved in making their own glass tile at the "Winter Tile" workshop. Cost $30. See here to book.



TECH FUN

6/ Kid Technic at Ainslie Football Club will be holding school holiday workshops in all things robotics, with several choices available. Build your own robot, race them and even program them to sumo wrestle! Prices start from $99. See here to book.

7/ Code Camp will be running two coding workshops these school holidays at UC High School in Kaleen and Canberra Grammar School in Red Hill. "SPARK" is designed for kids in Years 2 - 6 as an introduction to coding and "IGNITE" is the next step, with more challenges and problem-solving. Cost is $350. See here to book.

8/ Photo Access in Manuka will be holding a school holiday photography workshop for kids to learn how to take digital photos and then join in on a computer-based workshops to master the fundamentals of Adobe© digital manipulation software. Cost is $300. See here to book.



ACTIVE FUN

9/ Netball ACT in Lyneham has a school holiday program based on the Suncorp NetSetGO program and caters for both boys and girls from 5 – 15 years of age. Have fun, meet friends and learn some new skills at the same time! Prices start from $65. See here to book.

10/ The Warehouse Circus will be running circus skills classes at both Chifley and Kaleen these school holidays. Kids learn juggling, stilt walking, unicycling, hula hooping, staff twirling and much more. Prices start from $190 a week. See here to book.

11/ Battle Games is a muddy and fun way to spend the school holidays, learning about teamwork whilst traversing through a series of challenges. This winter there will be three challenges on offer - "Operation 'WARRIOR ONE", "Operation 'NEW NINJA" and "Operation SPECIAL OPS". Cost is $85. See here to book. 12/ Viera Dance School will be hosting a school holiday "Winter Dance Club - GLEE Club", at Radford College in Bruce. Designed for 5 - 15 year olds, this fun camp will incorporate musical theatre, contemporary and jazz funk. Cost is $350. See Facebook for details.

13/ The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Bruce have specialised school holiday programs for soccer, AFL and swimming. They also run a general "Sports Vacation" program as well as sports program for pre-schoolers. Prices start from $74. See here to book.

14/ The National Zoo and Aquarium have a popular school holiday program called "Zoocation" which involves going behind the scenes to see animals, make them toys and have a full day of interactive fun - and make new friends! Cost is $80. See here to book.

15/ Kulture Break is a dance studio at Erindale which holds a wide range of dance classes for kids. These school holidays they will be running a "Winter Wonderland" dance workshop with hip hop, break dancing, games, activities and prizes. Cost is $300. See here to book.

Ensure you book in early to avoid disappointment, as some of these programs fill up fast. Although winter is a chilly time of year, there are still plenty of things to do all around the city.
