13 Winter School Holiday Activities Kids Will Love (And So Will You)
This winter school holidays, don't let the kids suffer through cold and rainy days trapped indoors; you're all certain to develop severe cabin fever! Get the kids out of the house with these great activities and programs designed to keep them entertained and even a little bit educated over the mid-year break.
1. Kids MasterChef Cooking Class, Mentone
Is your kid the next Pete Evans or Karen Martini? MasterChef 2011's Ellie is taking cooking classes for kids aged 8 to 14 at Mentone's Como Parade Café on Wednesday 1 July. Your mini master chef will learn all about pasta and pizza making, get to roll their own dough and make meatball sauce using fresh ingredients and a few expert tips. $30 per child; call 9583 3003 to book or enquire in-store.
2. Build It 4 Kids Lego Workshops, Mentone
Build It 4 Kids Lego school holiday workshops offer four three-hour long 'Master Builder' sessions for kids aged 4 to 12. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4pm, with the session on Thursday 2 July reserved for 4 to 6 year olds and a little less complex. $45 per child per workshop; to book email

3. Kraftworks for Kids, Cheltenham and Camberwell
Have you got a crafty kid? Kraftworks for Kids presents twice-daily holiday workshops for tweens and teens aged 8 to 14, including jewellery making, plasterkraft, scale modeling and much more. $35 per child per session. You can also arrange lunch for $5 extra, drop off kids for an early start (8.30 to 9am) also for $5 extra, and arrange a late stay (4 to 5.30pm) for $10 extra.

4. Planet Sport, Albert Park and Parkville
Does your kid live for sports?
Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre's (MSAC) Planet Sport holiday program offers action-packed days for 5 to 12 year olds with tennis, basketball, footy, athletics and circus skills sessions, as well as wave pool action and fun on the inflatables. $70 per child per day, plus lunch available for $9.

5. Roola Boola Children's Arts Festival, Prahran
The Roola Boola Children's Art Festival rolls back into town this winter holidays, offering 4 to 10 years olds circus, music, dance, animation, craft and theatre workshops at
Chapel Off Chapel , just to name a few. Workshops run between 10am and 3pm from 30 June to 10 July. $15 per child per workshop, free for accompanying adults. Kids can also enjoy some freebies in the foyer, including face painting, drawing, storytelling and music.

6. Maker World - Inside The Brick, Prahran
Functions On Chapel is being transformed into an interactive play space for toddlers to tweens for Inside The Brick from 1 to 9 July, with special Lego and robotics workshops. Tickets are $12.99, $24.99 or $60 depending on the workshop, or half price if you've been to a Chapel Off Chapel event.

7. NICA Circus Holiday Program, Prahran
NICA , the National Institute of Circus Arts in Prahran, presents circus skills for 5 to 12 year olds and teens from 6 to 10 July. Kids can run away with the circus for three hours or a whole day at a time and learn about juggling, tumbling, hula hoops, the tight wire, static trapeze and much more. 8. The Space Next Gen School Holiday Dance Program, Prahran
Get your 4 to 12 year old grooving to their own beat at the Next Gen dance workshops presented by The Space from 7 to 9 July. They'll enjoy loosening up for hip hop, break dancing and jazz, through to contemporary expression with lyrical and even some singing and acting. From $45 per child per workshop;

9. Cinderella by Tivoli Pantomime Theatre, Malvern East
Treat your 1 to 10 year olds to a magical day out with

10. ABC Activity Zone at Malvern Central, Malvern
Malvern Central invites kids aged 3 to 9 to drop in for some interactive ABC time this holidays from 6 to 10 July, 11am to 2pm. Set your creative kid's imagination free in the craft area, enjoy an ABC book together in the reading space and watch some of their favourite ABC shows in the TV zone. Free and no need to book, just stop past Level 3, opposite Capital Kitchen.
Littlies can also climb aboard Thomas the Tank Engine from 29 June to 12 July, 10.30am to 4pm, for just $4 a ride.
11. Forest Feast with Polyglot Theatre, Chadstone Shopping Centre
Kids aged 2 to 11 can create the imaginary culinary delights of their dreams in this interactive craft space presented by Polyglot Theatre. You'll find the forest floor on the lower level outside David Jones from 9 to 12 July, bursting with activity 10am to 12pm and 1 to 3pm. Free and no need to book.
Chadstone Shopping Centre is also hosting Australia's first Disney-Pixar Inside Out Immersive Activity Zone from 30 June to 5 July, 11am to 3pm. Free and no need to book, you'll also find the interactive zone on the lower level outside David Jones. But wait there's more! Free Inside Out style face painting will also be available outside the Lindt Café.
12. Kidz Flix, Village Cinemas across Melbourne
It doesn't have to cost a small fortune to catch a movie with the kids this holidays.

13. Winter Wonderland, Southland Shopping Centre, Cheltenham
Forget the long drive up the mountains these school holidays,
