Beers, Burgers and Bowls at Red Hill
As well as being a local favourite as a day time coffee shop, Arthur's Green in Red Hill is now open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights serving up an assortment of beers, wines and burgers. I decided to pop along on a Sunday night, grab a burger and squeeze the last remains of fun out of my weekend. Red Hill is located a very easy 4 kms from the CBD.
Overlooking the Green Arthur's Green can be found in Fulcher Road beside the Red Hill Community Sports Club so as the name suggests the café overlooks a traditional Lawn Bowls Green. The café is largely an outdoor space which has a covered pergola beside the counter and kitchen area.
At night, the strings of lights are switched on and blues-fuelled tunes wander out of the speakers to create a chilled vibe. Add an assortment of burgers and beers and you've got a pretty cruisy place to kick back and relax. It is very cool. It's very urban. It's very hip.
There's plenty of generous outdoor bench seats, black outdoor umbrellas and heaters to fend off any winter chills or pesky showers. Actual grass lawn underfoot in the outdoor area keeps it real and the white picket fence pays homage to the heritage homes of the area.
The white pergola and its overhead, hanging fern baskets also has seating and open space to gather, and in fact standing room with a beer and burger in hand is a pretty popular option.
While the venue is great, let's be honest it's the burgers and beers that are the priority. And they don't disappoint. Pork, chicken, cheese and beef are all there ranging from $12-16. Add ons, sides and sauces are extra and gluten free options are available. The specials include 3 Sliders (with fillings of cheeseburger, beef brisket and pulled pork) for $15. They are super yummy and filling.
There's even a kids' menu for smaller tummies. If there is enough room at the end of the round of burgers, desserts are available with some old time favourites including chochlate and walnut brownie, jam filled donuts and kids ice-cream.
The drinks are a bit special too: Red Wine Sangria, Pimms, Mojito, White Russian, Sailor Jerrys with fresh apple, even mulled wine, perfect for a chilly night). Beers are courtesy of The Burleigh Brewing company with fun names like Twisted Palm, My Wife's bitter and Big Head and go perfectly with the burgers.
The café is on the flat and at street level making it easy to access and wander up to the counter to make your order. Getting there is easy. The Bowling Club has a dedicated parking area so finding a spot for your car is a breeze and it is well lit at night. Buses stop along Waterworks Road. To bring some burgers and beers to your weekend, give Arthur's Green a go.
