Launched in 2011, Eat Local Week connects visitors and locals with farmers and food producers. Held on July 7 at the Aratula Sports Complex, the Winter Harvest Festival offers the opportunity to eat your way around the Scenic Rim. Featuring suppliers, retailers and chefs from across the region and an amazing array of fruit and vegetables, wines, olives, cheeses and milk, this event is a foodies delight.
Inside the sports complex, stalls, cooking demonstrations and samples such as sheep cheese, honey and fudge draw the crowds.
Guests are lured outside with music, aromas and laughter. On the large expanse of grass, children have fun on the jumping castle and giant slide while adults feast on the delicious produce while enjoying the live music.
The delectable smorgasbord of food may include spanakopita and falafel wraps from Charlwood Organic Farm, wood-fired pizzas from Pietro's Pizza Café, pulled pork sliders from Nevendorf Farms and Lemon Myrtle and Garlic Chicken from the Wild Lime Cooking School. Lunch would not be complete without wine and the bar was buzzing with activity.
The Tractor Pulling Competition is a highlight of the day. Teams of 12 attempt pull a John Deere 12-tonne tractor 20 metres. Two competitions are held – adults and juniors, and entries are now open.
