Looking for some winter school holiday fun for the kids?
The City of Moonee Valley will be hosting their first-ever
Winter Fest during June and July 2018, with children's events such as ice skating scheduled to coincide with the July school holidays. The events and activities will take place at various locations around Moonee Valley, and will include a number of free events.
Here's a look at what's on offer:
Ice Skating
One of the festival highlights - the ice skating rink - will be located on the corner of Puckle and Pratt Street, Moonee Ponds. It will be open every day during the festival from 10am, with the last session starting at 7pm.
Each session goes for 45 minutes, and tickets prices are as follows:
$15 for adults and children aged 14
$10 for children (5-13)
$5 for toddlers (aged under 5)
$40 for a family (2 adults, 2 children)
Skaters can also hire penguin skate aids for $5 each, and coin operated lockers will be available. Please also note that children under the age of 5 are required to have an adult skating with them.
Online bookings are recommended as sessions may sell out, and tickets purchased online will also enable guests to receive express entry. Tickets can be purchased

Ice Skating - Discounted Youth Sessions
The Ice Skating Rink will also be offering
two special youth sessions for 12 to 25-year-olds only. Tickets will be $5 per person, and these sessions will take place on the following dates:
Wednesday, 4 July, 3pm – 5pm
Rainbow Rink: Dress in any colour you'd like
Thursday, 5 July, 6pm – 8pm
Neon Night: Dress in white and fluoro
Please note that a proof of age/student card is required on entry.
Movies
There's nothing like sitting inside a warm theatre on a cold winter's day and watching a movie.
During the festival, there will be several movies screening at Clocktower Centre, including:
The Incredibles - Saturday, 23 June, 2pm
Ice Age - Wednesday, 4 July, 11am
The Goonies - Wednesday, 11 July, 11am
Lawrence of Arabia - Saturday, 14 July, 2pm

Theatre
If you're into theatre, then you're in luck. There will be two productions taking place at Clocktower Centre during Winter Fest:
Hotel Sorrento - Wednesday, 6 June at 8pm
Tickets are $54 for Adults, and $42 for under 30s
Which Way Home - Thursday, 21 June at 8pm
Tickets are $44 Adults, and $32 for under 30s

Free Music
If you're on a budget but still want to enjoy Winter Fest celebrations, there'll be a number of free jazz and classical concerts taking place at various locations.

This free event will take place on Friday, 6 July, with children's activities from 2pm to 3.30pm and the adult event 'Bubbles and Books' from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Cosplay
Wednesday, 11 July, 7pm–8pm
This is a free, all ages event.
Emily Bronte's 200th Birthday
Monday, 30 July, 7pm–8pm
A spoken word performance by actress Lise Rodgers.

Incinerator Gallery will be hosting a number of children's events during Winter Fest. These events include:
Incy Wincy Babies for ages 0 to 24 months old

$5.50 per child (carers are free)
Arty Tales for ages 3 to 5 years old
Thursday, 14 June, 10am – 11.30am
Thursday, 19 July, 10am – 11.30am

School Holiday workshops for ages 4 to 12 years
Tuesday, 3 July to Friday, 6 July

Incinerator Gallery is located at 180 Holmes Road, Moonee Ponds.
Getting there
Moonee Ponds is about 7km north-west from Melbourne's CBD and is easily accessible by tram, train and bus. If you'd prefer to drive, there are a number of car parks in the area.
