A stay at home Mum who doesn't stay at home much; too many exciting things to be discovering in this city...
Gorge yourself on gourmet food whilst the kids go crazy
We are almost into the final month of winter. Hooray for that because I for one, am over it already. I am ready to get out my blindingly white legs and enjoy the feeling of the sun warm on my face and the sand between my toes. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself because Green Olive in Red Hill is hosting a Winter Family Fun Day this month which sounds like a great family day out.
Green Olive is a restaurant and winery located on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula run by the O'Donoghue family. Its 27 acres of land are used to grow olives, grapes, herbs and vegetables, and raise sheep and chickens. This bounty together with produce from local farmers ends up in your wine glass or on your plate, so you can enjoy delicious fare in scenic surrounds.
On Saturday 18th August from 9am until 5pm, you can spoil yourself with some of this tasty produce whilst the kids go crazy at the Family Fun Day. To keep the little ones entertained, there will be a jumping castle, face painting, alpacas to pet, a new puppy to play with and the Meet the Animals Farm Tour (10:30am). If you're feeling lucky, there are also competitions to enter; guess the number of olives in the jar for one. For the adults, there will be a fire pit, mulled wine, delicious food and market stands to browse.
It is free to get into this event, but if you're planning on having lunch there (which is kind of the whole point in my opinion) it's advisable to book a table beforehand. You can do so by following this link. Red Hill is an hours drive from Melbourne City and makes for a lovely day out, so if the sun is shining head on down to the Peninsula and make a day of it.
