Australia is the sunburnt country, the land of drought and flooding rains.
But come winter time, we are the land of snow. Well, in some parts of the country, anyway! Places such as Thredbo, Perisher Blue and Charlotte Pass in NSW, and Mount Buller and Falls Creek in Victoria, are popular and truly spectacular snowfields. However, Canberrans don't need to travel that far to enjoy the snow. Why? Because we have our very own winter wonderland right here in the ACT, and it's only a short drive from Tuggeranong.
Welcome to Corin Forest!
Corin Forest is the perfect place for Canberrans to enjoy the snow without having to leave Canberra at all.
Located just outside Canberra in the Tidbinbilla Mountain Range and set within glorious mountain ash forests, Corin Forest is a winter wonderland that offers skiing, snowboarding, snowplay, snowsports school, and lots of snowmen-making.
Here are four reasons to enjoy winter at Corin Forest.
1. SnowplaySnowplay is lots of fun for the whole family. It's a dedicated space where you can dash through the snow on your toboggans, build a snowman or two, have a snowball fight, or just frolic and play.
There are three snowplay sessions daily: at 8.30am, 11.00am and 2.00pm. Numbers for each snowplay session are capped for your safety and comfort. A snowplay session lasts for 2.5 hours and is priced at $20 per adult, $20 per child, and free for children under two years of age. You can also hire a toboggan for your session for $5, as well snow boots ($15) and jacket and pants ($20) if you don't have any. Go
here for more information and to book your session.
2. Skiing and Snowboarding
Corin Forest has a custom designed slope for skiing and snowboarding, especially suited for beginners. The slope features an easy to use "magic carpet" ski lift and gentle terrain.
There are two daily sessions for skiing and snowboarding: from 9am-12.30pm, and 1pm-4.30pm. You can also enjoy some night skiing on Friday and Saturday nights from 5.30pm-9.30pm. A ski session costs $40 per adult.
Onsite ski and snowboard rentals are also available, as well as snow jacket, pants, boots and helmet hire.
For safety and comfort the ski area is limited to a maximum of 150 persons per session, so advance bookings are strongly recommended. Go
here for more information and to book your session.

If you would love your children to learn how to ski, then you can enrol them in Corin Forest's Joeys Ski Club! Open to children aged 4-14, the Joeys Ski Club program runs for 2.5 hours and includes everything children need to hit the slopes with confidence, including the fitting of boots and snow gear; fun and educational safety training on and off the snow; and on snow teaching in the Joeys Ski Club area. There are three Joeys Ski Club lessons daily and cost $109 per child.
Adults (15 and up ) can also learn how to ski and snowboard. The adult program features a 2-hour group lesson as well as free time at the end of the lesson to master your technique. Cost is $129 per person.

ain't it thrilling
Though your nose, gets a chilling
We'll frolic and play, the Eskimo way
Walking in a winter wonderland"
